Post-Procedure Care

    TMJ Arthrocentesis Recovery

Arthrocentesis is a minimally invasive procedure with faster recovery than traditional TMJ surgery. Follow these guidelines for the best outcome.

    What is TMJ Arthrocentesis?

Arthrocentesis is a minimally invasive procedure that involves irrigating (washing out) the temporomandibular joint with sterile fluid. This procedure:

    • Removes inflammatory debris from the joint
    • Breaks up adhesions that limit jaw movement
    • Reduces joint inflammation
    • Improves joint lubrication
    • Provides immediate relief for many patients

This is typically an outpatient procedure performed under local anesthesia or light sedation, with minimal recovery time compared to open joint surgery.
